Maruf Ahmed

I’m Maruf Ahmed and I am your Labour candidate for Queen Edith’s. I want to be a visible, approachable councillor who delivers practical solutions and strengthens our local community.

I am Joint Secretary of the Bangladesh Welfare and Cultural Association Cambridge, supporting families and amplifying minority voices. I am actively involved in local charities, community food support, and grassroots initiatives, and work closely with local sports groups, keeping me connected to residents of all ages.

My priorities for Queen Edith’s:
1. Build strong communities. I will champion local communities, tackle inequalities, reduce anti social behaviour, and support new community facilities and green spaces.

2. Homes for local residents. I support building a new generation of council homes, helping residents in housing need, and tackling rough sleeping so that Cambridge works for everyone.

3. Safer roads instead of potholes. As a councillor, I will continue my campaign and put pressure on the Lib Dem-run County Council to finally prioritise fixing Cambridge roads.

I will support young people by expanding access to regular community sports, helping reduce anti-social behaviour and build stronger neighbourhoods. I am equally committed to ensuring older residents feel valued and connected, working with local organisations and NHS partners to deliver social and wellbeing activities, including health-focused events. Keeping Queen Edith’s safe is a priority for me, and I will work with residents, community groups, and police to improve safety through practical measures such as better lighting and targeted action on anti-social behaviour. I will also tackle rising traffic congestion by listening to residents and pushing for common-sense solutions that improve daily life.

Having lived in Cambridge for over 20 years, I understand the challenges residents face.
I will be a visible and approachable councillor who listens, communicates clearly, and works hard
to deliver for our community – new homes, better transport, public health and community safety.
I’m here to support working families, older residents, young people and anyone who feels ignored.
I’m committed to making sure your voices are heard in the decisions that affect our community.
