I am Carlos Toranzos, and Cambridge has been my home for over 50 years. Through countless conversations on doorsteps, I learned that people want safe cycling and walking routes, proper lighting for pensioners, accessible green spaces, real opportunities for young people, and a community that genuinely supports them.
My years of voluntary work – at the Trumpington Food Hub (now Fair Bite), and alongside charities such as Amnesty International and Help the Aged – have placed me face-to-face with the daily realities of families and neighbours. These experiences reinforced one truth: representation means listening, working relentlessly, and acting with total commitment to improve people’s lives.
It is why I am standing again as Labour’s candidate: to turn those needs and aspirations into real,
tangible change.
Jonathan, a resident of Trumpington, recently said: “Carlos is an absolute star. He has been a huge help with problems in my home that I needed the developer to fix. He’s strategic, dogged and full of energy. I honestly don’t know what I would have done without him. You can be sure he’ll fight for you, too.” I share this because Jonathan’s experience reflects exactly why I am here today. He faced a developer problem—one of those situations where ordinary people often feel powerless. But no one in our community should feel powerless. Every voice matters, and I am committed to being the person who stands with you and fights for you.
Cambridge is growing fast, and we urgently need a councillor who stands up for residents. It is time to address the issues residents raise every day: cutting waiting times for GP appointments, ensuring our cycle paths and footways are properly maintained, extending library access for families, safeguarding green spaces, and building the community facilities our young people deserve. Labour offers the ambition and the determination to deliver sustainable homes, a cleaner environment, stronger public services, and a fairer future for Trumpington.
To make this happen, we need a shift in the balance of power here in Trumpington – from a Lib Dem group of councillors that has become complacent, to a Labour team ready to lead with energy, honesty, and action. I am fully committed to building a safer, healthier, more connected Trumpington where the needs and aspirations of residents drive every decision. This is my promise, and this is the change I am ready to fight for.
