I’m Richard Swift and I have lived in West Chesterton for 30 years. As one of your current Labour councillors, and deputy mayor, I care passionately about our local community in the area. I am standing for re-election on 7 May so I can continue delivering for our residents here in West Chesterton.
My priorities for West Chesterton are:
- Build strong communities, not just homes. Tackle anti-social behaviour, reduce inequalities, champion local communities, build new community facilities and green spaces in Cambridge.
- High quality, affordable homes for all. Continue building a new generation of council homes, support residents in need with housing and tackle rough sleeping.
- Safer roads. Tackle speeding by continuing to lobby for speed indicators, improve cycleways and pedestrian crossings and putting pressure on the Lib Dem County Council to fix our roads.
Since I was elected in 2022, I have been working to make our city greener and more sustainable to protect the environment. I have helped create Jubilee Gardens, a welcoming part of the riverside, including the installation of extra benches. I have been working on biodiversity upgrades for Alexandra Gardens and Chesterton Rec & supported stopping the use of harmful herbicides.
Transport and cycling is another of my priorities. I am continuing to work with residents on residents’ parking, bus routes and tackling speeding. I have also spoken publicly on Arbury Court and the Civic Quarter to ensure local views are incorporated into final designs.
